SaskTel has issued a request for proposal (RFP) to companies within Saskatchewan, Canada, and the United States to outsource its e-mail service. Michelle Englot, spokeswoman for SaskTel, said a list of 25 companies were sent the RFP.
“It’s a business decision” she said. “Basically, it’s costing us a significant amount to do it internally and it was determined that it would be more cost-effective and efficient to do it externally.”
But Lorne Calvert, leader of the NDP, said he is deeply disturbed that SaskTel has issued the RFP.
“It is just as I feared – the plan is to hollow out the profitable Crowns as prelude to creating entities that inevitably then can be privatized,” he said. “This is a clear indication, I think, of a very wrong-headed direction.”
