‘Downturn to hit IT spend harder than dotcom bust did’ – Gartner

The global economic downturn is going to deal a bigger blow on worldwide information technology spend in 2009 than the dotcom bust did in 2001. Research firm Gartner Inc, on Wednesday, came out with its forecast for IT spending in 2009 would be down 3.8% at $3,234 billion compared with $3360.3 billion last year.

This would be largest slump in the IT spending since 2001, when it had fallen 2.1%. On the same day, Forrester also pared down its guidance for US IT spending in 2009 by 3.1% against a 1.6% rise previously projected.
